Saffron’s Su-Mei Yu Selected for New KPBS Food Show

Local chef, restauranteur and cookbook author Su-Mei Yu has been chosen as one of two winners in KPBS’ Explore San Diego Project, and will be the host of a new food show Savor San Diego, set to debut in May 2013. Yu, whose Saffron Restaurant on India Street is one of the anchors of the newly-declared International Restaurant Row, submitted a pilot featuring San Diego fishermen and local sea urchin from Catalina Offshore Products. Once Yu secures funding, production plans to film subsequent episodes that will highlight the local food community — from farms to food artisans — and each include a short cooking demo.
